Impact Summary
The first official client was onboarded on Dec ‘20 - a completely manual process
Handed off the project to another product team after completing the automation of core processes.
At CareRev, I launched a new product that went from 0 to $50M annual revenue in 13 months.
I was tasked by the CEO to launch a new business line for the company from scratch. This project had several interesting challenges, for one it would go live immediately but in a very manual process (more on that in a bit), I had to also figure out how to make the new business work within the confines of our platform that was designed for this kind of work.
As a recap, CareRev, is like the Uber for nurses. Nurses can pick up extra shifts whenever they would like using our platform. My task was to enable contracts, i.e. the nurse signs for a contract for X number of weeks for Y number of shifts every week. This gives the hospital the staff they love more frequently in departments they need them in, in turn the nurse gets higher pay for their loyalty.
After several cross functional team meetings, the following steps were done:
An Account manager would work manually using google sheets and other workarounds. We would manually time keep and get pay sorted out with the finance department. A lot of handholding would be done for both the nurse and the hospital.
I split my development team in two, and had the backend engineers build out the necessary changes that would enable us to take on this new kind of user type and customer type. This spanned on both the B2C and B2B side of our two sided marketplace.
I also made some wireframes to get the design time thinking about updates we need for the hospital staff to use this new product.
We started migrating the manual tasks the account managers were doing onto the platform and simultaneously worked on the front end changes.
We then proceeded to train the customer service, account managers and rest of the company on the new product feature set.
Once these were thoroughly tested out, we migrated one of the hospital client department completely on the platform. Once this was successful, we migrated all clients that needed the product onto the new flow.
New features that came out as a result:
Industry first ability to quickly target and query nurses in a geographical area if they have interest in working for a contract. (Brought down response time drastically by doing this in the app Vs using phone calls)
Ability to quickly tally and store interest from our users for contracts.
Account managers and Hospital users can start a contract from the platform and payments are automatically updated without much manual intervention.
Account managers and hospital users have a clean dashboard with updated status and other information without having to leave the CareRev platform.
This launch was worked on in tandem with other feature releases I was working and responsible for in the product team.
